Faculty Show
This is the last week to see my work in the Faculty Show at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at ACAD. With a large and diverse faculty, the show has something for everyone except art-haters and pheasants. I have declared myself the Silkscreeniest in Show. Don’t miss it.
New Print (NSCAD Exchange)
Last year, I organized an exchange exhibition between ACAD and Emily Carr in Vancouver (with my counterparts on the coast Beth Howe and Diyan Achjadi). This year, ACAD is creating a portfolio with our allies at NSCAD (with Eastern coast printmakers Mitch Mitchell and Mark Bovey). We will each be shipping our prints at the end of the month and each institution will be hosting an exhibition of the portfolio in March. I was able to take advantage of reading week to complete my edition. I look forward to seeing the rest of the prints in the folio.
DNSPE 2012 Update
I just received two copies of the DNSPE 2012 catalogue in the mail today along with the good news that my print “Returning, Pausing” received the Brackett-Krennerich & Associates Architects Purchase Award. This print will now be in the Arkansas State University Permanent Collection.
A quote from the Juror’s Statement (Roberta Waddell) in the catalogue: “While the screenprint particularly lends itself to simple, clearly defined, flat areas of color, Heather Huston takes advantage of the medium’s versatility in Returning, Pausing, a syncopated arrangement of subtly colored, patterned, and layered architectural planes that fluctuate from opaque to translucent.”
Always nice to hear how other people describe my work and to find a fellow fan of the Oxford comma.
2012 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition
My work will be showing in the 2012 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition this year at Bradbury Gallery at Arkansas State University. Sixty artists were selected by Roberta Waddell, curator of prints emerita at the New York Public Library, from over six hundred entries and I am the only or one of the only artists from outside of the US. Opening is on January 19th.
First Exhibition of 2012
My work will be in Global Matrix III showing at Purdue University Galleries from January 9th until February 19th 2012. The show will then travel around the US for the next two years. The show features work by a variety of US and international artists.
Aw Shucks
I just found out that my work was voted Best in Show in the Swimming Upstream exhibition at Metro Frame Works in Colorado. Some excellent news to celebrate the almost-end-of-semester.
In China
Its my last morning in Beijing before I catch a plane to Chongqing where I will be participating in the 3rd Qijiang International Printmaking Festival.
Just back from my trip, exhausting and wonderful. They really went all out with girls dressed in white with furry shawls to welcome us, all kinds of banners and posters, corsages and floral bouquets. It was strange to be photographed all week, taken for lavish dinners (of all kinds of innards) and to try and communicate with people using mostly culturally-ignorant pantomime. It was excellent to see all the wonderful work in the show and meet some of the other artists. Here’s the website for the exhibition: 3rd Qijiang International Printmaking Festival. More to come on the trip and the other artists!
hi its me next to my print
I spoke at a symposium about something that I’m sure was not the same as what it says on the poster.
Current Shows
I am currently showing my work in a couple of venues if you happen to be in Atlanta or Denver.
Swimming Upstream at Metro Frameworks in Denver Colorado is up until November 26th
The Atlanta Print Biennial is showing at Barbara Archer Gallery until December 3rd. My work won the APS purchase prize in this exhibition.
Please Excuse the Mess/Massive Lack of Information/Images
If you are reading this and you are not me, then holy crap I apologize for the crappy state of my website! I am slowly working on it and I do mean slow. So its quite a mess, please feel free to visit www.heatherhuston.blogspot.com for a glimpse of my work and what I’ve been up to in the meantime while I quietly organize my work on here. Hit me up with questions/interesting thoughts/videos that aren’t of cats doing what I’m sure are interesting things to some people at heather_huston@hotmail.com. In the meantime, please enjoy a recent print:
