The Body, Stranger at the Vernon Public Art Gallery

Here are some install shots of my recent solo exhibition, The Body, Stranger, that just closed at the Vernon Public Art Gallery. Many thanks to Lubos Cullen and all the gallery staff for putting up a great show and providing me with an opportunity to share my work with a larger audience. A catalogue was produced for the exhibition and features an essay by Barbara Sutherland. Copies are available at the gallery.

Visiting Artist Lecture

I’m giving a talk about my practice at the University of Calgary on February 5th, 2016 at 10am. The lecture is titled Structures and Strange Body: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Disease. It will be a hilarious and personal history of my work and my own intersecting illness narrative. Come on by and ask me easy questions such as: on a scale of one to Hotline Bling, how much do I like ice cream?

Upcoming Solo Exhibition: The Body, Stranger at VPAG

I’ve been working on a new body of work these past four months to be exhibited at the Vernon Public Art Gallery from January 2016 until March of the same year. While some works were completed earlier in 2015, the majority were created in the latter half of the year for this exhibition. All works are part of my The Body, Stranger series. Please join me at the opening reception on January 14th, 2016 from 6-8pm. Heather Huston e-vite

Teaching Award

I don’t talk very often of my teaching on my site but it’s a big part of my creative practice and feeds my research. I was honoured to have just received a Teaching Excellence Award at the Alberta College of Art + Design. I love creating a challenging and rewarding curriculum for my students and I’m so thrilled that it resonates. This will serve as great energy and inspiration as I prepare for the Winter semester

DI CARTA I PAPERMADE

I was honoured to have been included in Di Carta/Papermade by curator Valeria Bertesina. The exhibition features works on paper from artists around the world and includes many artists whose work I admire greatly. The show opens on December 12th at Palazzo Fogazzaro in Schio, Italy. The theme of the biennial is Esthetics Aesthetics and the work that was invited of mine is two of my silkscreens to be exhibited as a diptych that deal with intersections between chronic illness and daily life. Title of the diptych is Conversations With Myself.

Printing Marks and Codes / Printing Design International Invitation Exhibition

I was honoured to have been invited to participate in Printing Marks and Codes/Printing Design International Invitation Exhibition at the Printmaking Department at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. The exhibition opened on November 14th and will run until the end of the month. I have many fond memories of Chongqing and my time there in 2011. The city is large, bright, and busy and sits at the intersection of two major rivers: the Yangzee and the Jialing.

I am very pleased to have had my work selected as part of the Atlanta Printmakers Studio Print Biennial. The exhibition opens this Friday, November 6th, at Kai Lin Art in Atlanta. 69 printmakers were selected by juror and etching/mezzotint star Art Werger to form the exhibition. Thrilled to be in such fantastic company.
