Excited to have my work exhibited for Fresh Ink at Wonderfair during Lawrence Print Week (October 16th – 21st). The show was juried by Jeffrey Dell, an amazing silkscreen artist whose work I greatly admire. The show is up until November 5th and features an excellent lineup of contemporary printmakers. Check it out if you happen to be in Lawrence, Kansas.
New Prints
Here are two new prints that I premiered at The Other Passport. Both are silkscreen on mylar.
The Other Passport at the Red Deer Museum Galleries
September through October, I am exhibiting some new works alongside Jill Ho You and Marnie Blair at the Red Deer Museum Galleries. Our exhibition The Other Passport reflects on illness and its impacts. The title is based on a Susan Sontag quote from Illness as Metaphor:
Illness is the night side of life, a more onerous citizenship. Everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place.
I’ll also be delivering an artist talk to students at Red Deer College on September 25th.
Impressions at the Leighton Centre
I have five prints on display at the Leighton Centre as part of Impressions, an exhibition of local Calgary (and region) printmakers. The show is up until the end of September (although its been up for a few months already).
10th BIECTR
I recently returned from Quebec where I attended the opening of the Biennale Internationale d’Estampe Contemporaine de Trois-Rivières (BIECTR). I was thrilled to be selected as one of 51 artists from around the world for this edition of the biennale. I met many excellent printmakers, saw a lot of great prints, and gave a short talk about my work in French. Install shots below:
New Prints
Here are some new prints – a couple of them are portfolio prints including one that I never posted from last year. All are silkscreen on paper.
The 36th Bradley Print and Drawing International
I have a print included in the 36th Bradley Print and Drawing International juried by Kathryn Polk. The exhibition opens today and runs until April 17th at four galleries in Peoria, Illinois: the Heuser Art Center and Hartmann Center Gallery, Studios on Sheridan, Prairie Center of the Arts, and the contemporary Art Center.
The Lancet Oncology
A review of Flux was just published in the Lancet Oncology. Never thought I’d see my work mentioned in this journal!
Review of Flux
Anne Pratt has written a lovely review of Flux in Canadian Art.
I am Wearing Clothes but I am Naked
My work I am Wearing Clothes but I am Naked is my contribution to the exhibition Flux showing right now at DC3 Art Projects in Edmonton. It was created in response to the year long research project on patient experiences dealing head and neck cancers. It brought together artists, medical researchers, and patients to share and translate cancer experiences.
My piece deals with the aftermath of recovery, the distance that patients feel from their everyday life and specifically how fraught the social activity of eating becomes.
